The All Progressives Congress (APC) has attributed the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the inordinate ambitions of its members and a lack of proper coordination. This assertion was made by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashir, during a formal reception for former PDP member Hon. Nicholas Ossai at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.
Bashir described the PDP as a “dilapidated structure” that can no longer be trusted to govern Nigeria. He emphasized that the APC remains the only political party in the country that continues to grow stronger, while opposition parties, particularly the PDP, are embroiled in internal conflicts.
“Of all political parties in Nigeria, our party continues to wax stronger, and you see opposition parties, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party, are in serious crisis occasioned by inordinate ambitions and lack of proper coordination,” Bashir stated.
He commended Ossai for recognizing the achievements of President Bola Tinubu and expressed confidence in the ruling party’s ability to lead Nigeria effectively. “The question is, can Nigerians trust a party that cannot even put its house in order to rule the country? So, thank you for abandoning that already dilapidated structure,” Bashir added.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ossai, who represented Ndokwa East/Ndokwa West/Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State under the PDP, declared that the PDP’s umbrella has “broken,” and the center can no longer hold.
“The umbrella has broken, the center cannot hold. You don’t play party politics when the head is sick. So, I have come to be part of the teamwork of APC that is already shaping Nigeria. PDP today has broken. You ask a question: why is it not fixed? Because the center cannot hold,” Ossai said.
He expressed his commitment to the APC, vowing to work with the party’s leadership at the grassroots level to ensure its victory in Delta State by 2027.
“I’m happy as an APC member today, and I’m going to work with the leadership of APC in the grassroots and make sure that APC takes over Delta State in 2027. To start with, APC will take over the House of Assembly in my local government, which I will produce, and by His grace, APC will take over my federal constituency where I have spent 12 years,” Ossai declared.
DAILY MENTOR reports that Ossai’s defection to the APC underscores the growing challenges within the PDP and the ruling party’s efforts to consolidate its influence ahead of future elections. The development also highlights the ongoing realignment of political forces in Nigeria’s dynamic political landscape.
