APC Tackles PDP Over Claims Akpabio is Behind Udom Emmanuel’s EFCC Probe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is behind the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) probe of former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

The PDP had alleged that Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom and now a prominent APC figure, was using his influence to instigate the investigation as a political witch-hunt. However, the APC has described the allegations as baseless and an attempt to distract from the issues at hand.

In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party urged the PDP to allow the EFCC to carry out its duties without interference. “The EFCC is an independent institution mandated to investigate financial crimes. Linking Senator Akpabio to the probe is a desperate attempt by the PDP to politicize a legitimate process,” Morka said.

The statement further emphasized that the APC believes in the rule of law and supports anti-corruption efforts. “If the PDP has nothing to hide, they should allow the EFCC to do its job instead of resorting to cheap propaganda,” Morka added.

The EFCC had recently invited Udom Emmanuel for questioning over allegations of misappropriation of funds during his tenure as governor. The former governor has denied any wrongdoing, describing the probe as politically motivated.

The PDP, however, remains adamant in its claims, with its National Chairman, Umar Damagum, accusing the APC of using state institutions to target opposition figures. “This is not about fighting corruption; it’s about silencing the opposition. We stand by our members and will resist any form of intimidation,” Damagum stated.

Political analysts have noted that the exchange between the two parties highlights the deepening tension between the APC and PDP as the 2027 general elections draw closer. The EFCC has yet to comment on the allegations, maintaining that its investigations are based on evidence and not influenced by political considerations.
