The Arewa Renaissance Group, a socio-political organization dedicated to the progress of Northern Nigeria, has strongly criticized a recent statement by a coalition of Northern groups threatening to block federal highways. The coalition issued the threat in protest against the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, demanding an immediate reversal of the decision.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Mustapha Ahmad, the Arewa Renaissance Group described the coalition’s actions as reckless and unpatriotic. The group warned that attempts to disrupt economic activities over Senate matters serve only selfish interests and undermine national stability.
“We are alarmed by this reckless call to shut down highways and disrupt national stability. At a time when our country faces serious challenges, such actions only inflame political tensions and harm ordinary Nigerians,” the statement read.
The Arewa Renaissance Group urged the coalition to pursue peaceful and constructive resolutions rather than resorting to threats. It emphasized that the dispute is a matter between individuals and should not be escalated to a national crisis.
“This is a matter between two individuals, and there is no justification for dragging the entire nation into it. What Nigeria needs most is peace-without peace, there can be no progress,” the group added.
Reiterating its neutrality in political disputes, the Arewa Renaissance Group distanced itself from what it described as attempts to manipulate public sentiment for personal gain. It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and national progress.
“We refuse to be used as pawns in advancing individual interests. Nigerians will come to see that our priority remains the promotion of peace, unity, and national progress,” the statement concluded.
As political tensions continue to rise, the Arewa Renaissance Group’s call for restraint and dialogue highlights the broader challenge of maintaining stability and cohesion in Nigeria. The group’s stance underscores the importance of addressing disputes through peaceful means to ensure the nation’s progress and development.
