The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has denied any involvement in an alleged N10 billion fraud linked to an aide of Senator George Akume, the SGF. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the aide over claims of misappropriation of funds meant for public projects.
In a statement issued on Monday, the OSGF clarified that the aide in question was not acting on its behalf and that the office operates with the highest standards of transparency and accountability. “We are not involved in this matter, and we urge the public to disregard any insinuations linking the OSGF to the alleged fraud,” the statement read.
The EFCC’s investigation centers on allegations that the aide diverted funds allocated for infrastructure development in Benue State, where Senator Akume previously served as governor. The anti-graft agency has reportedly recovered some of the funds and is working to trace the rest.
Senator Akume’s office has also distanced itself from the scandal, stating that the aide acted independently and without authorization. “We are fully cooperating with the EFCC to ensure that justice is served,” a spokesperson for the SGF said.
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians calling for stricter oversight of public funds. As the investigation continues, stakeholders are urging the government to take decisive action to curb corruption and restore public trust.
