Lagos, Nigeria – Dr. Doyin Okupe, a prominent Nigerian politician and former presidential aide, has reportedly passed away at the age of 72. The news of his death was confirmed on Friday morning, following a prolonged battle with a suspected cancer-related illness.  

Dr. Okupe, who served as the Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign for the 2023 election, was a well-known figure in Nigerian politics. His career spanned decades, during which he held several key positions, including Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.

In 2022, Okupe was appointed to lead the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, playing a pivotal role in the party’s efforts during the 2023 general elections. However, his tenure was cut short when he was forced to step down following a court conviction over alleged money laundering charges.
