The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday interrogated the immediate past Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, violation of procurement processes, and diversion of public funds amounting to N138.4 million.
The former minister reportedly arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 11 am, where she was questioned regarding her alleged involvement in the fraudulent activities during the disbursement of the ministry’s 2023 budgeted funds.
Investigations by the EFCC revealed that funds donated for the P-Bat Cares for Women Initiative were allegedly diverted for her personal enrichment.
Uju Kennedy Ohanenye was among the ministers relieved of their duties by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024. She had been appointed Minister of Women Affairs on August 21, 2023.
DAILY MENTOR reports that the interrogation underscores the EFCC’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability in public office. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to address financial misconduct and uphold transparency in government operations. Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
