Ekiti Philanthropist Sponsors Free JAMB Registration for 7,000 Students, Backs Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

In a remarkable effort to promote education and support underprivileged students, Hon. Opeyemi David Falegan, a UK-based philanthropist and security expert from Ekiti State, has sponsored free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration for approximately 7,000 applicants across the state. This initiative, now in its eighth year, aims to provide students from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to tertiary education.

Free JAMB Registration Initiative

The free JAMB registration commenced immediately after a rigorous screening exercise, which saw over 12,000 applicants vying for the opportunity. Falegan, speaking from his UK base, emphasized that the gesture is his contribution to ensuring affordable and quality education for all, regardless of social status.

“This initiative is about giving back to society and ensuring that every child, no matter their background, has the opportunity to pursue their academic dreams,” Falegan said during a telephone chat with journalists in Ado Ekiti.

Support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

Falegan also expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a laudable initiative that aligns with his vision for Nigeria. He praised Tinubu’s commitment to education, security, the economy, agriculture, and human capital development.

“The Renewed Hope Agenda shows that President Tinubu has great ideas for the country. His policies, such as the Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), TETFUND interventions, and other youth empowerment programmes, are commendable. However, these initiatives can only succeed if all stakeholders and Nigerians support the government’s programmes,” Falegan stated.

Screening Process and Commitment to Education

Falegan explained that after receiving applications, a private screening panel was constituted to ensure a thorough and fair selection process. Some applicants were disqualified due to deficiencies in their results, ensuring that only deserving candidates benefited from the initiative.

The philanthropist pledged to sustain the free JAMB registration programme, noting that his goal is to assist parents struggling to sponsor their children’s education. He encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity and expressed satisfaction with the screening panel’s work.

“Our aim is to bring relief to the less privileged and ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education,” Falegan said.

Impact and Call for Support

In 2024, the ODF Foundation distributed over 5,000 free JAMB forms to deserving students, and this year’s initiative aims to reach even more beneficiaries. Falegan called on public-spirited individuals to support their communities and contribute to initiatives that promote education and humanity.

“I urge indigent persons and those who know anyone in need to take advantage of this opportunity. Let us work together to make people’s dreams come true,” he said.

A Vision for the Future

Falegan reaffirmed his commitment to education, empowerment, and youth development, stating that his foundation will continue to create opportunities for students to pursue their academic dreams without financial hindrance.

“Through this initiative, more students across Ekiti State will have the chance to achieve their academic goals and contribute to the development of our nation,” he added.
