FG Takes Over Gombe Hospital

The Federal Government has officially taken over the management of the Gombe Specialist Hospital, following a handover ceremony held on Saturday. The move is part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery and ensure access to quality medical services for residents of Gombe State and neighboring regions.

The hospital, previously managed by the Gombe State Government, will now be operated under the Federal Ministry of Health. The takeover was formalized in a ceremony attended by representatives of both the federal and state governments, as well as healthcare professionals and stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Health, Dr. Muhammad Pate, emphasized the federal government’s commitment to upgrading the facility to meet international standards. “This takeover is a significant step in our mission to provide world-class healthcare services to all Nigerians. We will invest in modern equipment, training for staff, and infrastructure development to transform this hospital into a center of excellence,” Dr. Pate said.

The Gombe Specialist Hospital, which serves as a referral center for the northeast region, has faced challenges such as inadequate funding, outdated equipment, and staffing shortages. The federal government’s intervention is expected to address these issues and enhance the hospital’s capacity to handle complex medical cases.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the initiative, describing it as a “timely and welcome development.” He assured residents that the state government would continue to collaborate with federal authorities to ensure the success of the project.

“This takeover is a win-win for the people of Gombe and the entire region. We are confident that the federal government’s intervention will bring about the desired improvements in healthcare delivery,” Governor Yahaya said.

The handover has been widely welcomed by residents and healthcare workers, who have long advocated for better facilities and services. A staff member at the hospital, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed optimism about the changes. “We have been struggling with limited resources for years. This is a new beginning, and we are hopeful that things will improve,” the staff member said.

The federal government has also announced plans to replicate similar takeovers in other states as part of its broader strategy to revitalize Nigeria’s healthcare system.
