FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed openness to the idea of Canadian superstar Drake headlining the first-ever halftime show at the 2026 World Cup Final.
This comes as FIFA plans to introduce a Super Bowl-style halftime show for the tournament's final, set to take place on July 19, 2026, at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which will be renamed New York New Jersey Stadium for the event.
During a recent interview with Fox5, Infantino responded positively to a suggestion that Drake could be the maiden headliner for the historic show. The co-host proposed the idea, stating, “I have a great idea for you for the halftime; Drake! Because Kendrick Lamar did his thing at the Super Bowl…”
Infantino replied, “So we can create a bit of rivalry, right? That’s a good idea. Actually, Drake was with us when we announced the host cities [of the tournament]… We will do that [sign him for the halftime show].”
FIFA has already announced that it is collaborating with Coldplay’s lead vocalist, Chris Martin, to curate the halftime show. However, Infantino’s comments suggest that Drake could also play a significant role in the event.
The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will feature a series of high-profile events, including a “takeover” of Times Square in New York City during the final weekend of the tournament.
