A shocking investigation has uncovered a sex trafficking ring operating in a brothel in Ogun State, where victims, including underage girls, were held captive and forced into prostitution. The harrowing details emerged after a joint operation by the police and anti-human trafficking agencies led to the rescue of several victims and the arrest of the brothel’s operators.
According to reports, the brothel, disguised as a guesthouse, was located in a remote area of the state. Victims, some as young as 15, were lured with promises of employment and better opportunities, only to be trafficked and subjected to inhumane conditions.
One of the survivors, identified simply as Ada, recounted her ordeal: “I was promised a job as a waitress in Lagos, but when I arrived, I was locked up and forced to sleep with men. They threatened to kill me if I tried to escape.”
Another victim, 17-year-old Chidinma, shared how she was drugged and repeatedly abused. “I couldn’t escape because they took my phone and locked me in a room. I was given drugs to make me comply,” she said tearfully.
The rescue operation followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and the Ogun State Police Command. The brothel’s owner and several accomplices were arrested during the raid, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the trafficking network.
NAPTIP spokesperson, Adekoyejo Adewale, condemned the crime, stating, “This is a stark reminder of the evils of human trafficking. We are committed to ensuring that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law while providing support and rehabilitation for the survivors.”
The victims have been moved to a safe house where they are receiving medical care, counseling, and legal assistance. Authorities have also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help combat human trafficking.
This revelation has sparked outrage across the country, with many calling for stricter enforcement of anti-trafficking laws and better protection for vulnerable individuals, particularly young women and girls.
