The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stated that it remains unshaken by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to leave the party. El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday, citing internal crises within the ruling party as his reason for departure.
Reacting to the development, Yahaya Baba-Pate, Secretary of the Kaduna APC, affirmed that the party is focused on its primary goal of securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 general elections.
“We are unperturbed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s defection to another party. Our main focus in Kaduna is on how to deliver the state to both President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in 2027,” Baba-Pate said.
He emphasized that the APC in Kaduna State is growing stronger, with prominent politicians joining the party regularly. “The APC in Kaduna State is growing by the day, as evidenced by the calibre of politicians joining the party regularly. We are not disturbed and will not lose sleep over El-Rufai’s decision. The party in the state is expanding more than ever before,” he added.
El-Rufai’s defection has sparked discussions about the internal dynamics of the APC and the potential impact on the party’s fortunes in Kaduna State. However, the Kaduna APC’s confident response underscores its determination to consolidate its position and maintain its dominance in the state.
As political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections, the APC’s focus remains on strengthening its base and delivering victories for its candidates at both the state and national levels.
