Abia State Police Confirm Arrest of 300-Level Student
The Management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has announced that it has commenced the profiling of Chidozie Humble, a 21-year-old male arrested by the Abia State Police Command for unlawful possession of firearms.
The suspect, who claims to be a 300-level student in the Department of Animal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU, was apprehended on Thursday at a private lodge in Umudike. The arrest was confirmed by the Abia State Police Command, which stated that Humble was found in possession of firearms, raising concerns about campus security and student conduct.
In response to the incident, the university’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Ubadire Agua, disclosed that the institution’s Chief Security Officer has been briefed on the matter. Agua emphasized that the university is currently verifying Humble’s status to determine whether he is a bona fide student of MOUAU.
“The administration of Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff. We will never condone any form of criminality involving any member of the university community,” Agua stated.
He further assured that the university would cooperate fully with relevant security agencies to ensure that justice is served and to rid the campus and society of criminal elements.
The arrest has sparked reactions from students and residents of Umudike, with many calling for increased security measures on campus and its environs. The university management has urged students to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
As investigations continue, the university has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for criminal behavior, emphasizing its dedication to upholding the integrity and safety of its academic community.
