Nigerian-American Actress Ayo Edebiri Reveals She Received Death Threats Linked to Elon Musk

Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri has disclosed that she received “insane death threats” following an incident involving billionaire businessman Elon Musk. Edebiri stated that she faced numerous death threats and racial slurs after Musk shared a fake report in February 2024 claiming that Disney was considering her as a replacement for Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Musk reacted to the false report by commenting, “Disney sucks,” on his social media platform, X. Edebiri believes that Musk’s response amplified the fake story, leading to a wave of online harassment directed at her.

Taking to her Instagram story, Edebiri wrote, “Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man. LMAO. So not only is he [Elon Musk] double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway.”

The incident highlights the unintended consequences of high-profile figures engaging with unverified information online. Edebiri’s experience underscores the challenges public figures face in dealing with online harassment and the impact of social media amplification.

Daily Mentor reports that this is not the first time Musk’s actions on social media have sparked controversy, but it serves as a stark reminder of the real-world consequences of online behavior. Edebiri’s candid revelation has drawn attention to the need for greater accountability in the digital space.
