Suspect Claims Victim Was His Girlfriend; Investigation Ongoing
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Abdulmalik Sanni for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl in Igbesa, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state. The suspect was apprehended after the survivor, accompanied by her father, reported the incident at the police station on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
According to the survivor, Sanni had bought her Indomie noodles, and after consuming them, she fell asleep in his room. She alleged that while she was asleep, Sanni had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. She woke up to find herself naked.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect was arrested and, during interrogation, confessed to the crime. However, Sanni claimed that the survivor was his girlfriend.
“On March 2, 2025, at approximately 6:40 pm, a 16-year-old girl, accompanied by her father, visited the police station to report an incident. According to the victim, on February 28, 2025, Abdulmalik Sanni bought her Indomie noodles, and after consuming them, she fell asleep in his room. While she was asleep, Sanni allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent, and when she woke up, she found herself naked,” Odutola said.
She added that a team of investigators was promptly assigned to the case, and statements were obtained from both the complainant and the suspect. “Notably, the suspect provided a confessional statement, alleging that the victim is his girlfriend,” Odutola noted.
The police spokesperson confirmed that investigations are ongoing to unravel all details surrounding the incident. The suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran for further investigation and likely prosecution.
The case has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for justice and stricter measures to protect minors from sexual exploitation. As the investigation progresses, authorities are committed to ensuring that the suspect faces the full weight of the law if found guilty.
