Tension has gripped Ondo State following the abduction of a farm estate owner and his manager by gunmen, who are demanding a N100 million ransom for their release. The victims, identified as Chief Olusegun Adeyemi and his manager, Mr. Tunde Olatunji, were kidnapped on Friday evening at their farm estate in Owo Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the farm estate and took the victims away after shooting sporadically into the air. The abductors have since contacted the families of the victims, demanding a N100 million ransom for their release.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers. “We are working with other security agencies to ensure the safe release of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami.
The abduction has sparked outrage among residents, who have called for increased security in the area. “This is becoming too frequent. We can no longer go about our daily activities without fear. The government must do something to protect us,” said a resident of Owo.
The incident is the latest in a series of kidnappings in Ondo State, which has seen a rise in criminal activities in recent months. The state government has vowed to tackle the security challenges and ensure the safety of residents.
“We are deeply concerned about the security situation in the state, and we are taking steps to address it. We will not allow criminals to disrupt the peace and stability of our state,” said Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in a statement.
As the search for the victims continues, residents are hopeful that the security agencies will act swiftly to rescue them and restore peace to the area.
