Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Thursday presented the staff and instrument of office to the reappointed Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adebayo Adegbola. The ceremony took place at the governor’s office in Ibadan, the state capital.
DAILY MENTOR recalls that the Oyo State government had earlier announced the appointment of Adegbola as the new Eleruwa of Eruwa in Ibarapa East Local Government Area on Tuesday.
Oba Adegbola had previously served as the Eleruwa of Eruwa for 21 years, having been installed in 1998. However, he was deposed on November 29, 2019, following a Supreme Court judgment. His reappointment marks a significant milestone in the traditional leadership of Eruwa.
The presentation ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Edward Ogundoyin, who hails from Eruwa. Also present were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and Oba Adegbola’s wives, Caroline and Oyefunke.
Governor Makinde’s gesture underscores the state government’s commitment to upholding traditional institutions and ensuring the continuity of cultural heritage. The reappointment of Oba Adegbola is expected to bring stability and development to the Eruwa community.
DAILY MENTOR reports that the event was a moment of celebration for the people of Eruwa, who have long awaited the resolution of the traditional leadership tussle. The reappointed monarch is expected to resume his duties and continue his service to the community.
