Paul Parker Urges Manchester United to Replace André Onana with Leicester’s Mads Hermansen

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has called on his old club to replace goalkeeper André Onana with Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen in the upcoming summer transfer window. Parker’s scathing critique of Onana comes in the wake of Manchester United’s disappointing FA Cup exit at the hands of Fulham on Sunday.

Parker’s Harsh Assessment of Onana

Parker, who played for Manchester United during the 1990s, did not hold back in his criticism of the Cameroonian goalkeeper. He described Onana as “useless” and questioned his mentality, claiming that the 28-year-old does not seem to care when the team concedes goals.

“I can’t help but think about why the club let David de Gea go,” Parker told Danish news site SpilXperten. “It was a really disgraceful way they parted with him after he was named Player of the Year three times in a row, and right now, it looks even more ridiculous because his replacement is so useless.”

Parker also highlighted Onana’s lack of leadership on the pitch, contrasting his demeanor with that of former United goalkeepers like David de Gea and Peter Schmeichel.

“Another thing I really don’t like about Onana is his mentality. It doesn’t seem to bother him when Manchester United concede a goal. You never see him standing there shouting or scolding his defence, like De Gea or Schmeichel always did. He’s just not good enough, and I don’t think he even looks like a goalkeeper at all,” Parker added.

Parker’s Recommendation: Mads Hermansen
Parker suggested that Manchester United should consider Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen as a long-term replacement for Onana. The Danish goalkeeper has been in impressive form this season, earning praise for his performances in keeping Leicester competitive in the Premier League.

“Right now, I think [Altay] Bayindir should get a chance, but in the long run, the club should go for Mads Hermansen, who has single-handedly kept Leicester somewhat afloat this season,” Parker said.

Onana’s Struggles at Old Trafford

André Onana was signed by Manchester United during Erik ten Hag’s tenure as manager, replacing the long-serving David de Gea. However, his time at Old Trafford has been marred by inconsistent performances and criticism from fans and pundits alike. The FA Cup exit against Fulham has only intensified the scrutiny on the Cameroonian shot-stopper.

What’s Next for Manchester United?

With the summer transfer window approaching, Manchester United may be forced to reevaluate their goalkeeping options. While Altay Bayindir could be given an opportunity to prove himself, Parker’s recommendation of Mads Hermansen highlights the growing sentiment that a change is needed between the posts.

As the club looks to rebuild and compete for major trophies, the goalkeeping position will undoubtedly be a key area of focus. Whether the management heeds Parker’s advice remains to be seen, but the pressure is mounting on Onana to improve his performances.
