Singer and Nine Workers Face Similar Allegations of Assault, Conspiracy, and Public Disturbance in Ogun State
An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court in Ogun State has adjourned the assault case against popular singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, to March 26, 2025. The adjournment allows the prosecution to merge the charges against the singer with those of his nine workers, who were arraigned on similar allegations.
When the case resumed on Wednesday, Senior State Counsel Timilehin Oredein informed the court that it would be inefficient to hear Portable’s case separately from that of his workers. He explained that both cases stemmed from the same incident and should be consolidated to avoid wasting judicial time.
Oredein reminded the court that Portable and his workers were initially arraigned on February 6, 2025, on five counts of conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. The charges relate to an alleged attack on three officials of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, during which the defendants were accused of being armed with cutlasses and a gun.
The prosecution prayed the court for a short adjournment to enable the charges to be merged and substituted. Magistrate A. A. Shobayo granted the request, adjourning the case to March 26 for further proceedings.
Portable, known for his controversial lifestyle, has been in the spotlight since the incident, which has drawn significant public attention. The case highlights the legal consequences of alleged violent conduct and the importance of maintaining public order.
As the court prepares to consolidate the charges, all eyes will be on the proceedings to see how the case unfolds and whether the singer and his workers will face the full weight of the law. The adjournment provides an opportunity for the prosecution to strengthen its case and ensure a fair and efficient trial.
