Resign or Be Impeached – Okocha-Led Rivers APC to Fubara

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Chief Tony Okocha, has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation or face impeachment. The demand comes amid escalating political tensions in the state, following a series of disagreements between the governor and the state legislature.

In a statement issued on Monday, the APC accused Governor Fubara of incompetence, mismanagement of state resources, and failure to address the needs of Rivers people. The party warned that if Fubara does not resign voluntarily, the state House of Assembly would initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

APC’s Allegations

Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers APC Chairman, outlined the party’s grievances against Governor Fubara, citing poor governance, lack of transparency, and a growing debt profile as key issues.

“Governor Fubara has failed to deliver on his promises to the people of Rivers State. His administration has been marked by incompetence, corruption, and a lack of direction. We cannot afford to have such a leader at the helm of affairs,” Okocha said.

The APC also accused Fubara of undermining the state legislature and disregarding the rule of law, further exacerbating the political crisis in the state.

Fubara’s Response

As of now, Governor Fubara has not officially responded to the APC’s ultimatum. However, sources close to the governor have dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, describing the impeachment threat as an attempt to destabilize his administration.

“Governor Fubara remains focused on delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State. These allegations are baseless and part of a larger plot to distract him from his duties,” said a source within the governor’s office.

The ultimatum by the Rivers APC is the latest development in a series of political crises that have rocked the state since Fubara assumed office in 2023. The governor has been at loggerheads with the state House of Assembly, which is dominated by APC members, over issues such as budget approvals and appointments.

The political tension has raised concerns about the stability of the state and its ability to attract investments and development.
