Rivers State Assembly Launches Probe into Chief Judge Over Alleged Age Falsification

The Rivers State House of Assembly has initiated an investigation into the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification. The probe comes amid the ongoing political crisis in the state, which has seen heightened tensions between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Governor Similayi Fubara over control of the oil-rich region.

The issue came to light during Thursday’s plenary session when the Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, presented documents to the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, suggesting that Justice Amadi may have falsified his age in official records.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dumle Maol, brought the matter to the floor, stating:

“These documents before me indicate that the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, falsified his age in service. Mr. Speaker, this is a very serious allegation, and I hope the House takes legislative notice.”

Following a heated debate, the Assembly resolved to formally request the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the allegations and report its findings back to the House. Speaker Martin Amaewhule emphasized the need for a thorough probe, stating:

“The documents suggest a case of age falsification by the Honourable Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi. This necessitates an investigation to determine the facts.”

The motion was put to a vote, and the House unanimously agreed to direct the DSS to investigate the matter. This development adds a new layer to the political crisis in Rivers State, as the outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for the judiciary and the broader political landscape. Further updates are expected as the probe progresses.
