Opeyemi Bamidele Highlights Legislative Achievements, Pledges Gender Sensitivity in 10th Senate

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has revealed that the Nigerian Senate is actively passing laws aimed at positioning the country for a $1 trillion economy by 2030.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the United Kingdom Parliament at the National Assembly complex in Abuja on Tuesday, Bamidele emphasized the upper chamber’s commitment to building a resilient economy and a functional political system that ensures citizens’ security.

Representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District, Bamidele highlighted the Senate’s achievements in passing key legislations designed to foster economic competitiveness and improve the daily lives of Nigerians.

“By engaging my colleagues across all political divides, we have successfully passed laws aimed at creating an environment for economic competitiveness and positioning Nigeria for a $1 trillion economy by 2030. I am proud to say that many of these legislative initiatives are already making a difference in the daily lives of our citizens,” he said.

The Senate leader also noted the National Assembly’s efforts to build synergy with international parliamentary associations and institutions to address institutional capacity gaps. On the issue of gender sensitivity, Bamidele assured the delegation that the 10th Senate would prioritize increasing women’s representation in elective offices.

Kate Osamor, leader of the UK delegation, urged Nigeria to include more women in the National Assembly to bridge the existing gender gap. “We have to make sure that more women are in the parliament. Every society is a reflection of its elected representatives,” she stated.

The meeting underscored the Senate’s focus on economic growth, security, and gender inclusivity, as Nigeria strives to achieve its ambitious economic targets and strengthen its democratic institutions.
