A 32-year-old stepfather, Samuel Alfred, has been arrested for defiling his 14-year-old stepdaughter in the Igbo Elerin area of Lagos State. Alfred was nabbed alongside his 21-year-old friend, Obi Ikechukwu, who also allegedly sexually assaulted the minor.
The case, involving conspiracy and defilement, was transferred from the Okokomaiko Police Division to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on February 19, 2025. The arrest followed a report by the victim’s 30-year-old mother, who accused Alfred of defiling her daughter and impregnating her.
The complainant revealed that her husband had been sexually abusing her daughter since she was 11 years old. She stated that in October 2024, Alfred again had carnal knowledge of the girl, resulting in her pregnancy.
The second suspect, Obi Ikechukwu, allegedly had sexual intercourse with the girl while she was pregnant, claiming that the act would ease childbirth.
In a related development, another case of defilement was transferred from the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command on March 18, 2025. This case involved a 57-year-old man, Agbaraojo Wasiu, who was accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl in the Magbon Alade area of Ibeju Lekki.
The grandmother of the 12-year-old victim reported that Wasiu defiled her granddaughter on February 4, 2025, and threatened her with death if she revealed the incident to anyone.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Wasiu was arraigned at the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court, Oyingbo, on March 5, 2025, and remanded at Kirikiri prison. The case was adjourned until April 9, 2025, for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) advice.
DAILY MENTOR reports that these cases highlight the alarming prevalence of sexual violence against minors in Lagos State. The arrests and ongoing investigations underscore the need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable children and ensure that perpetrators face the full wrath of the law.
The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to tackling gender-based violence and ensuring justice for victims. The public is encouraged to report such incidents promptly to the appropriate authorities to prevent further harm and hold offenders accountable.
