Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated that Iran will not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons, amid reports of uranium upgrades by the Islamic Republic. The United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recently warned of Iran’s enrichment of its near-bomb-grade uranium stockpile, raising global concerns.
Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on Friday, Trump hinted at potential action against Iran, stating, “There will be interesting days ahead.” He emphasized that Iran was financially crippled during his presidency but has since gained significant wealth under the Biden administration.
“Iran was stone cold broke during my first term and when I left office, and now they have a lot of money,” Trump said. “We’re down to the final strokes on Iran. We’ll see what happens, but we’re down to the final moments. Can’t let them have nuclear weapons,” he vowed.
Trump criticized his successor, President Joe Biden, for lifting sanctions on Iran, which he claimed allowed the country to amass $300 billion. “They were all set to make a deal, and when I lost (slurs against Biden), they said, ‘Let’s not make a deal,'” Trump stated. “He (Biden) took the sanctions off; they became rich under Biden. They went from having no money to having $300 billion.”
The former president also hinted at imminent developments regarding Iran, saying, “We have a situation with Iran, and something’s going to happen very soon. You’ll be talking about that pretty soon, I guess.”
While expressing hope for a peaceful resolution, Trump made it clear that he was prepared to take decisive action if necessary. “I’d rather see a peace deal than the other, but the other will solve the problem,” he declared.
DAILY MENTOR reports that Trump’s comments come at a time of heightened tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. The IAEA’s warnings about uranium enrichment have sparked international concern, with many nations urging diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Trump’s remarks underscore his hardline stance on Iran, a hallmark of his presidency, which saw the U.S. withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA) and impose stringent sanctions. His criticism of Biden’s approach reflects ongoing political divisions over how to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
As the situation evolves, the international community remains watchful, with many hoping for a peaceful resolution to prevent further destabilization in the region. Trump’s statements suggest that the U.S. may take a more assertive approach if diplomatic efforts fail.
