United States President Donald Trump has pledged to address the “massive trade deficit” that reached record levels during former President Joe Biden’s administration. The US trade deficit surged in January, Biden’s final month in office, with imports rising by 10% to
269.8 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The trade deficit hit an all-time high of 98.1 billion deficit recorded in December.
In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump criticized the deficit, writing, “Massive Trade Deficit with the World, just announced, compliments of Sleepy Joe Biden! I will change that!”
During his recent speech to a joint session of Congress, Trump emphasized that Americans would benefit from tariffs in the long term. He reiterated his commitment to rebalancing trade relations and reducing the deficit through strategic economic policies.
DAILY MENTOR reports that Trump’s focus on trade deficits reflects his administration’s broader economic agenda, which prioritizes domestic production and fair trade practices. The pledge to address the deficit underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen the US economy and reduce reliance on foreign imports.
