Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Igbo people (Ndigbo) to unite in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term

UMUAHIA, Nigeria – As the 2027 general elections approach, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on the Igbo people (Ndigbo) to unite in support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term. Kalu made this appeal during a courtesy visit in Umuahia from the Abia State chapter of the Tinubu Mandate Support Group, led by Armstrong Okoronkwo, and members of the Club 17 Initiative, led by Prince George Nnanna.

Kalu praised President Tinubu’s bold economic, social, and political reforms over the past two years, describing him as a “progressive Nigerian who wants to leave a legacy” and is “intentional about the country.” He urged the Southeast to recognize these achievements and invest their votes where progress is evident, emphasizing that Tinubu’s administration has given the region increased relevance and inclusion.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a good product to be sold for a second term. I believed in him a long time ago, but he first believed in me and started assisting me before I met him. I was one of those who went to meet him and beg him to run for President. He’s doing a lot that has never been done,” Kalu said

He encouraged Igbos to partner with their Southwest counterparts and support Tinubu, noting that it is on Tinubu’s mandate that “we’re going to stand as Ndi Igbo.” Kalu stressed the importance of unity and strategic political alignment to ensure the Southeast’s continued relevance at the national level.

The Deputy Speaker also expressed optimism about the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s prospects in Abia State, assuring that the party will be strengthened to win future elections. He commended the Tinubu Mandate Support Group and Club 17 for their grassroots mobilization and voter education efforts, pledging his continued support for their initiatives.

Earlier, Okoronkwo lauded Kalu’s leadership in the National Assembly and reaffirmed the group’s commitment to delivering votes for Tinubu in 2027. Club 17’s Prince Nnanna also assured the Deputy Speaker of their full backing for both Tinubu and Kalu, highlighting their efforts to promote peace and political stability in the Southeast through the Peace in South East (PISE-P) initiative.

This development comes amid growing calls from Southeast leaders for strategic partnership with the Tinubu administration, with many emphasizing that supporting Tinubu’s re-election could position the region for greater national influence in the future.
