Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing her claims of an assassination plot against her as "false and malicious."
Akpoti-Uduaghan's Allegation
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Akpabio sought the assistance of Yahaya Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State, to assassinate her. She made these claims while addressing her supporters in Kogi State on Wednesday. The Kogi State government has since refuted these allegations.
Akpabio's Response
In a statement released by his aide, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan's claims were fabricated with the intent to smear his reputation. He emphasized that this was a "deeply irresponsible and dangerous attempt to provoke public unrest, attract media attention, and discredit the person and office of the President of the Senate for ulterior motives."
Prior Allegations
Akpabio also pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously made unsubstantiated accusations against him, including claims of sexual harassment, which she has seemingly abandoned. He highlighted her history of making similar allegations against other individuals, including Yahaya Bello and other dignitaries, in 2019 and 2023.
Pattern of Behavior
Akpabio suggested that Akpoti-Uduaghan's "recurring persecution narrative and evident lying complex should not be weaponised to malign individuals or destroy hard-earned reputations." He implied that her allegations should be viewed with skepticism, given her history of making similar claims.
