Atiku Blames Tinubu's Incompetence for Plateau Killings, Calls for Urgent Action

Abuja, Nigeria – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration, attributing the recent surge of violent attacks in Plateau State to the President’s incompetence. Atiku's statement follows the tragic loss of at least 47 lives in the Zike community of the Kimakpa area, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Sunday.

"It is regrettable and entirely unacceptable that these Nigerians had to lose their lives as a result of the incompetence of the Tinubu-led administration," Atiku stated, emphasizing the government's primary responsibility to protect its citizens. He also condemned the escalating terrorist attacks in Borno State, highlighting what he sees as a "total collapse" of the current administration’s security policy.

Atiku expressed concern over the impunity with which terrorists and bandits operate, particularly in Northern Nigeria. He called for the prioritization of prosecuting terrorists, suggesting special courts to expedite trials, and criticized the delay in prosecuting those in custody since 2016. "Our justice system must not give the impression that terrorism pays," he asserted.

Further, Atiku raised alarms about armed criminal groups crossing borders to carry out attacks, deeming it a "national disgrace." He urged proactive, preventive actions, stating that mere condemnation is insufficient.

In response, Atiku called on the National Assembly to urgently pass legislation enabling state governments to properly arm and equip their security outfits. He also appealed to community members to reject collaboration with armed groups and support Nigeria’s security forces by sharing intelligence.

Atiku concluded by commending the security forces' efforts and reiterating the need for a government that prioritizes security with decisive action.
