Gunmen Kill 10 in Plateau State, Government Seeks Arrest of Masterminds

Jos, Plateau State, April 3, 2025 – In a devastating attack, gunmen have killed at least 10 people in five communities within the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. The assault occurred on April 2, just six days after a similar incident in the Ruwi community, where over 10 people were killed and three injured during a wake-keep ceremony.

Details of the Attack

The Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the incident, detailing how the attackers targeted the villages of Mongor, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai. Security forces responded quickly, managing to chase the assailants out of Mongor and Daffo but not before they launched attacks on the other villages.

Response and Casualties

Fuddang expressed gratitude for the swift response by security forces, which helped minimize casualties. However, the attacks have resulted in the loss of over 20 community members in just one week. The BCDC has called for emergency relief from agencies like NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross to support the displaced and injured.

Government Reaction

The Plateau State Government has condemned the attacks, urging citizens to remain calm and vigilant. Commissioner for Information and Communication Joyce Ramnap extended sympathies to the victims and praised the efforts of security operatives. She emphasized the need for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

Ongoing Security Challenges

The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Plateau State, where attacks by armed groups have become frequent. The government has pledged to increase efforts to apprehend those responsible and ensure peace in the region.

Related Incidents

In related security incidents, two soldiers were ambushed in Kaduna, resulting in one death and one injury. Additionally, bandits in Katsina killed one person and injured three others during a raid on the Bajat and Dole villages.

The situation underscores the need for enhanced security measures and cooperation between local and federal authorities to address the rising tide of violence across Nigeria.
