A Police Inspector, identified as Maxwell Zabu, allegedly shot himself dead at the Eagle Island residence of a former Chairman of Port Harcourt Local Government Area in the early hours of Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The incident was reported at the Eagle Island Police post, under the Azikiwe Police Division, prompting detectives to visit the scene for preliminary investigations.
Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that authorities suspect the officer committed suicide. However, she added that the Command is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Zabu's death.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has directed the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for further detailed investigation.
