ABUJA, Nigeria – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District has announced plans to present evidence of alleged sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today program, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated that she will reveal the evidence at the appropriate time and in the right forum.
The senator's comments come amid ongoing tensions between her and Akpabio, which led to her six-month suspension from the Senate for misconduct. Akpoti-Uduaghan had previously accused Akpabio of sexual harassment and abuse of office, sparking a heated controversy.
In a separate development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected a petition for Akpoti-Uduaghan's recall, citing that it did not meet constitutional requirements. The petition, led by Charity Omole, an aide to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, was submitted on March 24, 2025, but INEC found it lacking in necessary signatures and valid addresses.
Akpoti-Uduaghan welcomed INEC's decision, praising the electoral body for halting the recall process. She argued that most addresses listed in the petition were false, as many houses in her district are not labeled, which would have made verification challenging.
The situation highlights ongoing power struggles within the Nigerian Senate and the broader political landscape, with Akpoti-Uduaghan's allegations against Akpabio adding a layer of complexity to their public feud.
