Shettima Represents Tinubu in Senegal as Nation Celebrates 65th Independence

ABUJA, Nigeria – Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Dakar, Senegal, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the country's 65th Independence Day Anniversary celebrations on Friday, April 4, 2025. The event commemorates Senegal's freedom from French colonial rule in 1960.

The Vice President's attendance follows an invitation extended to President Tinubu by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Senegal. President Tinubu himself is currently on a working visit to Paris, France, where he is evaluating his administration's midterm performance.

The Independence Day celebrations will be held at the Place de la Nation in Dakar. President Faye will host Vice President Shettima and other dignitaries from across Africa and beyond.

Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria on Friday following the one-day event. Senegal's Independence Day is marked by national pride, with ceremonies, parades, and cultural events across the country.
