"I will not be surprised tomorrow if INEC declares it has joined APC.” - Dele Momodu

Prominent political commentator Dele Momodu has expressed deep concerns over the conduct of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), suggesting the electoral body may be favoring the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). In a recent statement, Momodu said,

“The game is clear, nothing is new, we have seen it before and it's replaying itself but I am repeating it democracy must be democracy... I will not be surprised tomorrow if INEC declares it has joined APC.”

Momodu’s remarks reflect growing skepticism among opposition parties and civil society over the impartiality of INEC, especially following contentious elections marked by allegations of vote manipulation and irregularities. He has previously criticized INEC for allegedly aiding petitioners in perfecting illicit acts during election disputes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied claims of bias or interference, with recent statements dismissing rumors about leadership changes or undue influence from the presidency. However, trust deficit concerns persist among Nigerians, fueled by delayed results and accusations of tampering during elections.

Momodu’s warning underscores the critical need for transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s electoral process to safeguard democratic principles and maintain public confidence in the nation’s democracy.
