Air Peace Suspends All Flight Operations Nationwide Amid NiMET Strike

Air Peace Ltd., Nigeria’s leading airline, has announced the suspension of all its flight operations across the country due to an ongoing strike by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET).

Air Peace Ltd., Nigeria’s leading airline, has announced the suspension of all its flight operations across the country due to an ongoing strike by staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET). The suspension was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, by Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, Head of Corporate Communications at Air Peace.

Dr. Ndiulo explained that NiMET is responsible for issuing the Current Nowcast of Hazardous Weather (CNH) reports, which are vital for ensuring safe landings, particularly during the current season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Without these weather updates from NiMET’s control tower, Air Peace cannot guarantee the safety of its flights.

“As a safety-first airline, we have chosen to act responsibly by suspending operations until NiMET resumes full service,” Dr. Ndiulo said. He acknowledged the inconvenience this decision may cause passengers and assured that the airline would be contacting affected customers with updates and options for rescheduling their flights.

The strike by NiMET staff began on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, and is indefinite, with workers demanding improved conditions of service and other benefits. The strike has affected critical meteorological services nationwide, impacting aviation safety protocols.

Passengers are advised to stay in touch with Air Peace for further information and to monitor updates as the situation develops.
