The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly declared that it will not accept Governor Peter Mbah if he attempts to defect to the party. This firm stance was announced by APC State Chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah, during an expanded stakeholders meeting held at the party secretariat in Enugu, where over 150 prominent members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) formally joined the APC.
Agballah accused Governor Mbah’s administration of failing in its primary responsibility to protect the lives and property of Enugu residents. The party highlighted escalating security challenges, particularly the violent activities of killer herdsmen in Uzo-Uwani and Isi-Uzo local government areas, which have reportedly turned parts of the state into killing fields. The APC condemned the state government for its alleged inaction and attempts to suppress information about these security breaches.
The party also criticized the state government’s so-called Command and Control Center, claiming it has been ineffective beyond a 10-kilometer radius from the capital city, leaving rural communities vulnerable. Agballah described the Mbah-led government as having misgoverned the state and vowed that the APC would defeat the PDP government in the 2027 elections.
Despite this rejection of Governor Mbah, other APC members from Enugu North Senatorial Zone have praised his administration for significant infrastructure developments, including durable roads, smart green schools, and health centers, particularly benefiting the zone’s 260 political wards. These contrasting views reflect internal party tensions and differing perspectives on governance and political alignment within Enugu.
The APC’s firm refusal to welcome Governor Mbah into their ranks underscores the ongoing political realignments in the state as the party seeks to consolidate power ahead of future elections, while also emphasizing security as a critical issue in Enugu politics.
