Kogi LGA Imposes Curfew Amidst Rising Security Concerns, Senator Natasha's Rally to Proceed

Okehi, Kogi State, April 1, 2025 – The Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area (LGA) in Kogi State, Amoka Monday, has declared a curfew across the council area, citing escalating security concerns. The announcement coincides with a planned homecoming rally by the suspended Senator from Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, heightening political tensions in the region.

Curfew Details

In an official statement, Chairman Monday emphasized that the curfew is a necessary measure to maintain peace and order. He stated that the decision aligns with directives from the Kogi State Government and the Kogi State Police Command. The curfew aims to prevent potential security breaches, and anyone found violating the restrictions will face arrest and prosecution.

Senator Natasha's Rally

Despite the imposed curfew, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's media office has confirmed that her scheduled visit to Kogi Central for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations will proceed as planned. Her team has assured the public that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful and safe event for attendees.

Controversial Figure

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been a center of controversy in recent months. She was suspended from the Senate following allegations of misconduct and accusations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which she maintains are politically motivated.

Recall Petition

Further adding to the complexity, on March 26, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notified Akpoti-Uduaghan of a recall petition filed by some members of her constituency. The petition reportedly contains signatures from over half of the district's registered voters, totaling 250,000.

Local Reaction

Chairman Monday reiterated that the safety and security of the community remain the top priority. "We will not tolerate any actions that could compromise the peace and stability of our communities," he affirmed.

The conflicting announcements have created uncertainty among residents, with many questioning the motives behind the curfew and the potential for disruption during Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan's planned rally. The situation remains fluid, and authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure public safety.
