The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a self-proclaimed General Overseer (Daddy G.O) and a deaconess in Abuja for allegedly attempting to sell a two-year-old child for N1.2 million.
According to reports, the suspects, identified as Pastor Ugochukwu Ekwem and Deaconess Mary Ekwem, were apprehended by police operatives following a tip-off from concerned citizens. The arrest took place in the Kubwa area of Abuja, where the suspects had arranged to meet the prospective buyer and finalize the illegal transaction.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. She revealed that the suspects had already collected an initial payment before being caught in the act. The police also recovered evidence related to the transaction.
SP Adeh stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. She commended the public for their vigilance and encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
The case has sparked outrage and concern among Abuja residents and Nigerians nationwide, with many calling for swift justice and stricter measures to combat child trafficking.
