Politicians, Military Officers Among Boko Haram Informants and Collaborators – Governor Zulum

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has made a startling revelation, accusing some politicians and military officers of acting as informants and collaborators for Boko Haram terrorists. Speaking during an interview on News Central’s Breakfast Central, Zulum stated that these saboteurs are undermining efforts to end the insurgency in the state.

Governor Zulum emphasized the urgent need to strengthen intelligence networks and pledged to deal ruthlessly with anyone found aiding the terrorists. “We have informants and collaborators within the Nigerian Armed Forces, within the politicians, and within the communities. What we shall do is to strengthen our intelligence and to deal with them ruthlessly,” Zulum said.

He also called for an end to what he described as “contractocracy,” asserting that if such practices are eliminated, the state could put an end to the crisis within six months. Zulum cautioned against politicizing the fight against insecurity, stressing that insurgency cannot be defeated by military force alone.

“Insurgency will never end with kinetic measures alone; we must ensure that the non-kinetic measures are also put in place. What I mean by non-kinetic measures are socio-political and economic dimensions of the crisis,” he explained.

The governor further noted that, among the over 300,000 individuals who have reportedly repented from Boko Haram, there remains the risk that some may return to the bush. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to tackling both the root causes and the enablers of terrorism in Borno State, vowing to intensify efforts against all forms of sabotage.
