“He Has Refused to Recognize Us” – Victor Osimhen’s Alleged Family Members in Edo State Accuse Him of Neglect

Victor Osimhen, Nigerian football star and Galatasaray striker, is facing public criticism from alleged family members in his hometown of Okhuesan, Edo State, who accuse him of abandoning and neglecting them despite his international success.

In a viral video, elderly men from the community, including Omuyiwa John who claims to be related to Osimhen’s father, said Osimhen has refused to acknowledge his roots or support his extended family. John recounted how the community had to raise money to help Osimhen’s father during difficult times, including paying for marriage rites after his mother’s death. He expressed disappointment that Osimhen and his siblings never returned to bury their father in the village, a breach of local tradition.

The men also recalled watching Osimhen’s UEFA Champions League matches on a television brought by the Edo State Governor to the King’s palace, highlighting the community’s pride in him despite feeling neglected.

Reactions on social media have been mixed, with some defending Osimhen by questioning whether the family’s support was unconditional, while others sympathize with the villagers and urge the footballer to honor his heritage.

Osimhen, 26, has been in sensational form for Galatasaray, scoring 33 goals this season and becoming Nigeria’s second-highest national team scorer. He is currently linked with lucrative offers from top European clubs and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.

This controversy sheds light on the complex expectations placed on successful athletes by their home communities and the challenges of balancing personal success with family and cultural obligations.
