EXCLUSIVE: Wike Allocates 2,082 Hectares of Abuja Land Worth $3.6 Billion to Son Joaquin in Maitama and Asokoro

In a controversial move that has sparked outrage and allegations of systemic self-dealing, Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has allocated a staggering 2,082 hectares of land valued at approximately $3.6 billion to his son, Joaquin Wike. The vast land parcels are located in some of Abuja’s most prestigious districts, including Maitama, Asokoro, Guzape, and other high-profile areas within the capital territory.

According to exclusive reports from Peoples Gazette and corroborated by multiple sources, Joaquin Wike, the minister’s youngest son, has received at least 40,000 plots of land across these upscale neighborhoods. Some individual plots in Maitama and Asokoro have recently been sold for over $1 million each, underscoring the immense value of the allocations.

The allocations, formalized by Wike’s signature on various land documents as recently as May 2025, include 2.3 hectares in the rapidly developing district of Gaduwa. However, insiders suggest that the actual total land allocated to the minister’s family may exceed 3,500 hectares, far beyond the officially documented 2,082 hectares.

This massive land giveaway has intensified accusations of mindless looting and illicit self-dealing by Wike, who is already under scrutiny for revoking hundreds of land allocations over unpaid fees in January 2025. Critics argue that such extensive land allocations to a single family member represent a blatant abuse of power and a flagrant disregard for transparency and fairness in land administration within the FCT.

The revelations have ignited widespread public outrage, with many Nigerians questioning how such an enormous transfer of valuable public land could occur without accountability. Calls for investigations and law enforcement intervention have grown louder, yet no official response or action has been reported from relevant authorities.

The controversy adds to growing concerns about corruption and nepotism in the management of Abuja’s land resources, raising serious questions about governance and the equitable distribution of public assets in Nigeria’s capital city.
