FG Secures $40 Million World Bank Loan to Boost Health Security for Low-Income Nigerians

The Federal Government of Nigeria has received a $40 million loan from the World Bank aimed at enhancing health security for low-income citizens across the country. This funding will support efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services, strengthen health infrastructure, and bolster disease prevention and response systems, particularly for vulnerable populations.

The loan is part of the World Bank’s broader commitment to assist Nigeria in achieving universal health coverage and reducing health disparities. It will finance programs targeting maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and capacity building for healthcare workers in underserved communities.

Health Minister Dr. Amina Bello stated, “This financial support will significantly enhance our ability to protect the health of Nigerians most in need, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.”

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Health Strategic Plan and is expected to contribute to improved health outcomes, reduced mortality rates, and greater resilience against public health emergencies. The World Bank reaffirmed its partnership with Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of sustainable investments in health to foster inclusive growth and development.
