The Nigeria Police Force has launched an internal investigation following the circulation of a viral video showing armed officers trailing Nollywood actress Angela Okorie as she jogged, a scene that has triggered widespread public criticism and debate.
The video, which quickly gained traction on social media, features Okorie jogging on a public road while being closely followed by two uniformed, armed police officers. The footage initially drew attention because of Okorie’s celebrity status but soon sparked outrage over the officers’ conduct, which many viewed as inappropriate and unprofessional for members of the police force.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi condemned the officers’ actions, describing them as “clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force.” Adejobi emphasized that the incident, which appears to have taken place on or around a movie set, has raised serious concerns about police professionalism and the public’s trust in law enforcement.
“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected of members of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi stated, adding that administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved and to determine the full circumstances of the incident. He assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken based on the findings of the ongoing review.
Social media users and commentators have been divided over the issue, with some questioning the police’s priorities and others defending the officers if the scene was indeed part of a film production. Notably, Okorie herself has not yet commented publicly on the controversy, though indications from her social media suggest the video may have been a behind-the-scenes clip from her upcoming project, “Queen of Guns”.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, professionalism, and the protection of citizens’ rights, calling on officers to maintain the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty as the investigation continues.
