Ten People Die in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Near Soka, Ibadan

A tragic road accident early Tuesday morning on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around the Soka area in Ibadan, Oyo State, has claimed the lives of about ten people. The crash involved six vehicles, including three Nissan Micra taxi cabs and three articulated trucks, all reportedly traveling from the Iwo Road axis when the collision occurred.

Eyewitnesses and local reports indicate that the impact was severe, with multiple fatalities and several injured victims. Rescue operations were ongoing as emergency responders worked to retrieve bodies from the wreckage and clear the scene to restore traffic flow. The mutilated bodies of some victims were reportedly pulled from the debris.

Efforts to obtain an official statement from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Oyo State were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. However, local sources and media outlets confirmed the death toll and described the incident as one of the deadliest crashes on the expressway in recent times.

The cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined, though eyewitnesses suggested that excessive speed and loss of control by one of the truck drivers may have contributed to the collision. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and practice defensive driving on the busy expressway.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway remains one of Nigeria’s most trafficked routes, and this latest tragedy underscores ongoing concerns about road safety and the urgent need for improved traffic management and enforcement measures.
