Former Kaduna State governor and Social Democratic Party chieftain, Nasir El-Rufai, has delivered a scathing assessment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, declaring that Tinubu “is gone” amid soaring disapproval ratings. In an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, El-Rufai revealed that recent polling conducted in various parts of the country shows Tinubu with a staggering 91 percent disapproval rating in both the North and Southeast regions.
El-Rufai criticized Tinubu’s performance over the past two years, particularly in the areas of security, the economy, and trade, stating that the administration has failed to deliver improvements for ordinary Nigerians. He noted that even in Lagos, Tinubu’s traditional political stronghold, the president’s disapproval rating stands at 78 percent. In the Southwest, Tinubu fares only slightly better, with states like Ondo and Ekiti showing disapproval ratings above 50 percent, but nowhere in the region does he enjoy majority support.
“The guy is gone, he has performed miserably. The economy has stopped, the insecurity architecture has failed, there are no clear trade and investment policies, and everything is going wrong,” El-Rufai said, adding that while government revenues have increased, there is little to show in terms of results or improvements in people’s lives.
El-Rufai’s remarks underscore growing discontent and political pressure facing President Tinubu as Nigeria approaches the mid-point of his tenure.
