Iran’s top diplomat has declared that the Islamic Republic is ready to retaliate against any further attacks by the United States, following Tehran’s missile strike on the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military installation in the Middle East. The attack, carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on June 23, 2025, was described by Iran as a “mighty and victorious” response to recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The IRGC confirmed that the missile barrage targeted the Al Udeid Air Base, which serves as the command hub for the US Air Force in West Asia. Iranian authorities emphasized that the strike was a direct retaliation against what they termed “open military aggression” by the United States and was intended to send a clear message that Iran will not tolerate threats to its sovereignty and national security.
Qatar’s government condemned the attack as a violation of its sovereignty and international law but confirmed that its air defense systems successfully intercepted the missiles, resulting in no casualties or damage. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that all necessary precautions were taken to protect personnel at the base, including allied forces stationed there.
The missile strike coincided with Iran also targeting US forces at the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq, further escalating tensions in the region. The United States confirmed the attack and reported that its air defenses intercepted the missiles, with no casualties reported.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council framed the operation, codenamed “Operation Annunciation of Victory,” as a measured response equal in scale to the US bombing of Iranian nuclear sites. The council warned that US military assets in the region are vulnerabilities rather than strongholds and threatened broader confrontation should further aggression continue.
In the wake of the strike, Iran’s top officials reiterated their readiness to respond decisively to any new US attacks, underscoring the fragile and volatile state of US-Iran relations in the Middle East. The White House and Pentagon remain on high alert, closely monitoring developments as regional allies also temporarily closed and reopened airspaces in response to the heightened threat environment.
This latest exchange marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, with both sides signaling a willingness to continue military actions if provoked further.
