Former Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo Dumps PDP for APC

Former Vice President Namadi Sambo, who served under President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015, has officially defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The defection was announced on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and confirmed by APC stalwart Imran Muhammad on social media.

Sambo was formally received into the APC by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna. His move comes amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP, which has seen several senators, National Assembly members, and state leaders switch allegiance to the APC in recent months. This trend is widely attributed to internal crises and unresolved leadership disputes within the PDP.

Sambo’s defection is seen as a significant political realignment, particularly in Kaduna State, and could have implications for the 2027 general elections. The APC has welcomed him warmly, viewing his entry as a boost to the party’s strength and unity ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
