Over 100 Pupils at L.G.E.A. Primary School Maje, Kaduna, Forced to Sit on Bare Floors Due to Lack of Chairs

More than 100 pupils at L.G.E.A. Primary School Maje in Danmahawayi Ward, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, are compelled to sit on bare floors during lessons because the school lacks desks and chairs. This distressing reality was revealed by the civil society organisation MonITNG following a recent visit to the school.

The group reported that none of the classrooms have furniture, forcing some pupils to bring stools or small benches from home daily. MonITNG described the situation as a stark indicator of the neglect facing public education in Kaduna, despite the state government’s allocation of billions of naira to the education sector in recent years.

“These young children, eager to learn, endure discomfort and indignity as they sit on dusty floors and lean on cracked walls, doing their best to focus despite the odds,” the organisation lamented.

The condition at L.G.E.A. Primary School Maje reflects a broader crisis in Kaduna’s public schools, with overcrowding and dilapidated infrastructure reported in other schools within the state.

Calls are mounting for urgent government intervention to provide basic learning facilities and improve the welfare of pupils and teachers in Kaduna’s public education system.
