2027: Despite Wike’s Opposition, Ireti Kingibe Confident of Re-election as FCT Senator

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared that she remains confident of being re-elected in the 2027 general elections despite opposition from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Speaking on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm on July 8, 2025, Kingibe, who chairs the Senate Committee on Women Affairs, said the people of Abuja would overwhelmingly vote her back if she decides to run again.

Kingibe recalled that in the last election she secured one of the highest vote counts among legislators, attributing her success not only to the influence of Peter Obi but also to her own strong grassroots support. She further revealed that many Abuja residents harbor resentment towards Wike, criticizing the minister for treating the FCT people with disdain since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu in August 2023.

Despite Wike’s earlier assertion in July 2024 that Kingibe would not return to the Senate, she expressed confidence in winning by a landslide, emphasizing her connection with the electorate and her commitment to representing their interests.
