2027: No Joint Ticket Discussion Between Atiku and Obi – ADC’s Yunusa Tanko

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has clarified that there is currently no agreement or discussion regarding a joint presidential ticket between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi for the 2027 elections. ADC National Publicity Secretary, Yunusa Tanko, emphasized that while coalition talks continue among opposition figures, no formal arrangement has been reached on any joint ticket involving these key players.

This statement aligns with repeated public declarations by Peter Obi, who has confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election independently and denied any pact to run as Atiku’s running mate. Obi has stressed that any coalition must prioritize Nigeria’s pressing challenges such as security, economic revival, and food security rather than personal political arrangements.

The opposition coalition, known as the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), remains fragile amid disagreements over leadership and ticket arrangements. Reports indicate that Obi and Atiku have struggled to reconcile their ambitions, with Obi ruling out a subordinate role in any alliance. Atiku, meanwhile, has reportedly engaged with other parties like the ADC to explore alternative platforms.

Political analysts suggest that the absence of a joint ticket agreement between these prominent opposition figures could complicate the coalition’s ability to present a united front against the ruling party in 2027. The evolving dynamics underscore the challenges of opposition unity in Nigeria’s complex political landscape.
