Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the party as a “symbol of failure, pain, and anguish” with no empathy for Nigerians.
In a resignation letter dated July 1, 2025, addressed to the APC Chairman in Ward 8, Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amaechi outlined his decision to leave the ruling party after extensive consultations.
He lamented that the APC has deviated from the founding ideals that once inspired hope in the country, asserting that it no longer represents a future for Nigeria.
The former governor criticized the current administration’s handling of the economy and governance, accusing the federal government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulating upcoming elections.
Amaechi, a key figure in the opposition coalition formed to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in 2027, stated his commitment to join forces with like-minded patriots to liberate Nigeria from the APC’s dominance.
He emphasized that his choice is driven by the need for a genuine transformation of Nigeria’s political and economic system, calling for a movement that empowers Nigerians to take control of their government.
The development marks a significant political shift as Amaechi breaks from the party he once served and intensifies the opposition’s momentum ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
