A dramatic accident occurred on Saturday evening in Bohmte, northwestern Germany, when a car lost control at high speed, collided with a parked vehicle, broke through a hedge, and struck a 7-year-old boy who was on a trampoline before launching into the air and lodging itself in the roof of a nearby barn.
Local authorities reported that the driver, a 42-year-old man, suffered only minor injuries, while the woman in the passenger seat was seriously hurt. The young boy caught on the trampoline was critically injured and reported to be in life-threatening condition. Also aboard the vehicle were three boys, aged 11, 12, and 13, who sustained minor injuries.
The unusual trajectory of the car was influenced by the terrain and the trampoline’s bounce, propelling the vehicle about three meters (approximately 10 feet) into the air before crashing into the barn roof. Emergency responders deployed dozens of firefighters, a dozen ambulances, and two rescue helicopters to the scene for urgent rescue operations.
Rescue teams had to cut through the barn roof to reach the vehicle. The car was eventually lifted off the roof with a crane and removed by police. The incident has sparked an ongoing investigation as authorities seek to determine the cause of the high-speed loss of control and subsequent crash.
Residents described the spectacle as surreal, with one eyewitness recounting, “I heard a massive noise and thought someone was shouting for help. When I ran outside, I saw the car embedded in the roof.”
This accident highlights a rare and dangerous combination of factors leading to a severe crash, resulting in serious injuries and an extensive emergency response.
